CRT TVs have largely gone the way of the dinosaur, and as they die or are replaced, you may discover an interesting model being discarded. Hacker “FinnAnderson” found just that, a beautiful orangish-red TV labeled “international.”
Rather than letting it rot, he grabbed it and replaced the tube inside with a modern 12-inch screen, along with a Raspberry Pi 3 running RetroPie for some retro gaming. In order to make it look more authentic, he heated up a piece of acrylic then used the old tube to mold it into a copy of the original glass.
It can emulate everything up to and including N64/PS1/Dreamcast, with a built-in wireless Xbox controller receiver for multiplayer parties!
To complete his build, he added a digital tuner that allows it to receive actual television signals, and even hooked up the original channel selector knob using an Arduino to change channels!
