What’s 8½ feet tall, 5 feet wide, and looks like an armored bipedal bull? Jason Caulfield in his Tauren Frost Death Knight costume, of course!
Caulfield’s character/costume, named Akulva, recently won best of show at the Denver Comic-Con. It features backlit eyes that automatically blink using an Arduino Uno, along with an Adafruit Wave Shield on a second Arduino board to make Caulfield’s normal sounding voice become much, much deeper and intimidating. Finally, when talking, the beast’s mouth moves along with its speech using the PicoTalk servo controller.
Though the electronics are impressive, the exterior is also incredibly well done. He put over 700 hours into building this costume, which is actually his third attempt at this type of prop. If you’d like more info on the project, check out his two videos here, or even subscribe to his “Caulfieldcosplay” YouTube channel to see what comes next!
